RESOLUTION NO.      2011     
 

A RESOLUTION OBSERVING THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TERRORIST ATTACKS OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001, AND REMEMBERING AND HONORING THOSE WHO PERISHED ON THAT TRAGIC DAY

THAT, WHEREAS, in an unprovoked and senseless act of terrorism, four civilian aircraft were hijacked on September 11, 2001, and crashed in New York City, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon;

WHEREAS, innocent U. S. citizens of all heritages as well as visiting citizens of foreign nations were killed and injured as a result of those horrific acts;

WHEREAS, while we as a union still continue to recover from the unspeakable loss of so many innocent lives, the enduring spirit of the United States has be revitalized and given way to numerous expressions of heroism and patriotism;

WHEREAS, on this fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the City of Glasgow remembers and honors those who perished on that tragic day;

WHEREAS, the City of Glasgow salutes and will never forget how firefighters, rescue and law enforcement personnel, military service members, local officials, and other volunteer citizens responded with heroism and selflessness, with compassion, in courage, and with prayer and hope, and

WHEREAS, the City of Glasgow solemnly states that those whom we lost on September 11, 2001, will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts and in the history of our nation, and declares its support and continued encouragement to all of the men and women, home and abroad, who have committed their lives to protecting the American people from the threat of terrorism and defending the freedoms we hold so dear;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City of Glasgow, by and through its Mayor and City Council, does hereby observe this fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as a day to mourn, reflect, and rededicate ourselves to ending terrorism as we remember and honor those who perished on that tragic day; and that we encourage all our citizens to honor the victims of September 11, 2001, by reaffirming their commitment to sustaining our newfound patriotism through volunteerism, community involvement and services; and that we as citizens dedicate our time, talents, and energy to lift one another up and foster a new level of understanding and awareness. Let us honor the memory of all those who died by being of service to one another and by building the "stronger, more perfect union" our founding fathers called for.
