Structure Fire - 125 Adams Place


Units of the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 125 Adams Place, at about 1:00 PM, Friday, July 16, 2010. Arriving units reported smoke showing, and quickly located a fire in the kitchen area of the apartment. The fire damage was contained to the stove, stove vent, and cabinets.


The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, and was started when a sauce pan was left unattended on the stove.


The apartments are owned by Retiree Housing Management of Beachwood Ohio, and were occupied by the Cicscro Crabtree family. The Crabtree’s were not at home at the time of the fire, and a neighbor reported the fire after hearing a smoke detector sounding in the apartment next door.


Damage is estimated at $2,500.00, and no injuries were reported.


Firefighters were on the scene for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and were assisted at the scene by the Glasgow Police Department, Barren-Metcalfe County EMS, and Glasgow Housing Authority personnel.

Structure Fire - 103 Monroe Street


Units of the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 103 Monroe Street, at about 2:30 AM, Friday, July 09, 2010. Arriving units reported smoke showing, and were able to quickly locate the fire in the kitchen area of the house. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 10 minutes. The fire damage was contained to the kitchen, dining room, and utility room area.


The house is owned and occupied by Rita Francis. Ms Francis was at home at the time of the fire, and was awakened by a popping sound, and able to exit the house.


The fire appears to have started in the kitchen area, and electrical in nature.


Damage is estimated at $40,000, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters were on the scene for about 2 hours.


The Glasgow Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Glasgow Police Department, Barren-Metcalfe EMS, and Glasgow Electric Plant Board.

Compactor Fire - Alcan Composites USA Inc.


Units of the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a reported fire in the pallet yard at Alcan Composites, located at 205 American Avenue, at about 1:00 PM, Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Arriving units reported black heavy smoke, and a working fire in the pallet yard. Firefighters determined that the fire involved a compactor machine, pallets, and scrap foam core material. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 45 minutes.


The compactor machine was a total loss, and no dollar amount was available.


The fire appears to have started from the compactor machine, and then spread to the pallet and foam core material.


Firefighters were on the scene for about 2 hours and 45 minutes, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Barren-Metcalfe County EMS, Glasgow Police Department, Glasgow Street Department, and plant officials.


Due to the extreme heat conditions, 8 off duty Glasgow firefighters were called in to assist at the scene, and the East Barren and Haywood Fire Departments were called for mutual aid stand by in quarters.

The Glasgow Fire Department responded with 4 units and 11 personnel to 117 North Public Square, the Barren County Government building, to a report of a natural gas leak possibly inside the building. The Fire Department was also notified that they were evacuating the building. The firefighters, with the use of a portable gas monitor and a combustible gas meter, entered the building to look for the possible leak, and the gas meter in the building was shut off. Atmos Energy was also called to the scene. The Glasgow Police Department and Court security closed off the north section of the Public Square until the incident was over. While the firefighters were searching the County Building, the Fire Department was also advised of a possible natural gas odor in the WCLU building and also in the Durham's Barber Shop. Glasgow firefighters also went to these locations to check and see if there was another leak in these two buildings, but nothing was found. Firefighters found no natural gas in the County Building, so the employees were allowed to re-enter the building. There were no injuries reported and the Fire Department was on the scene a little more than an hour.

Structure Fire - 1332 Cleveland Avenue


On Wednesday, June 2nd, the Glasgow Fire Department responded at 2:28 in the afternoon to a report of a residential structure fire at 1332 Cleveland Avenue. Upon arrival firefighters noticed light white smoke coming from the residence. The occupants of the house had already exited the house and were in the front yard. Firefighters entered the house and found that something had burned on the stove and had filled the house with smoke. Firefighters used a fan to remove the smoke from the house. Two residents of the house did have some smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene by firefighters and Barren-Metcalfe EMS but refused transport. There was very little damage to the house. The Fire Department responded with 5 units and 12 personnel. No other injuries were reported.

NHC Healthcare – Smoke Detector Activation


Units of the Glasgow Fire Department responded to fire alarm activation at the NHC Healthcare Facility, located at 109 Homewood Blvd, on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at about 7:00 AM. The facility staff reported a fire in a room, and upon the arrival of fire units, it was determined that a chair had been on fire, and the fire had been extinguished by the facility personnel. Firefighters removed the chair from the room, and removed the smoke out of the building.


The fire was contained to the chair, and the occupant of the room was evacuated by the facility staff. No injuries were reported, and fire units were on the scene for about one hour.


The cause of the fire is being investigated by officials with the Glasgow Fire Department, Glasgow Police Department, and the Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office. Also, assisting at the scene was the Barren-Metcalfe EMS.
