Glasgow Fire Department is seeking applicants for:

FIREFIGHTER

The Glasgow Fire Department is seeking Candidates for the position of FIREFIGHTER. The candidate will need to have knowledge of the law and rules governing the duties of the position. Candidates shall be a person of sobriety and integrity and is/has been an orderly, law abiding citizen. It is imperative that all candidates successfully pass each phase and be available for the next phase.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Must be a U. S. Citizen
  • Must be 21 years old as of May 15th, 2016
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid KY driver’s license or obtain before 6 months probation is up
  • Must complete an application and turn into Glasgow City Hall before May 15th at 1600 to continue in the testing process
  • Must have completed and passed the CPAT (Candidate Physical Agility Test) or already have a valid CPAT card valid on the date of hire. NOTE: If for some reason you make the final list but are not hired until a later date, you are required to have a valid CPAT card good for the date you are hired (this will be your responsibility)

FIREFIGHTER SELECTION SCHEDULE

May 15th is the deadline for 2016 hiring process

May 19th and 20th is the written test and physical fitness performance test. You must attend one of these two days, pass the written test and take the physical fitness performance test to move on to the next portion of the hiring process. NOTE: You will also need to bring a copy of your driver’s license to give to the Chief Officer before the written test. If you have a current CPAT card we will need a copy of that as well.

NOTE: The times and dates for the CPAT portion of the hiring process is located on the Kentucky Fire Commission Website: http://kyfirecommission.kctcs.edu/

July 14th and 15th – 0930 each day – Hiring Committee, Command Staff and Mayor Interviews for new hires (you will be notified which day to attend). The interviews will be held at Glasgow Fire Department Station #1 located at 203 South Broadway Street.

July 18th Notification of final list

August 8th New Rookies start

October 28th Rookie graduation at 1400 @ Glasgow City Hall Council Chambers

All dates are tentative and may be adjusted if necessary by either the Fire Chief or Mayor

The hire list will be good for up to one year ending on July 15, 2017 

*PHYSICAL  ABILITY  COURSE*

Personnel wishing to go through the selection process for Firefighter must participate in the physical fitness performance portion of the selection process. The following is the physical fitness performance portion of the selection process. The list below is the physical fitness test. This test is designed to see the overall fitness level of the candidate and is not designed as a pass/fail test. Each section is to be completed before moving on to the next section. The order of listing is the order that each section is to be completed. There may be a wait between events depending on the number of candidates and how quick each event is completed.

  1. Push-Ups:        This event has a time limit of 3 (three) minutes. The candidate will complete as many push-ups as he/she can within time frame
  2. Sit-Ups:            This event has a time limit of 2 (two) minutes. The candidate will complete as many sit-ups as he/she can within two minutes.
  3. Grip Strength:   Using a hand dynamometer the candidate will have 2 (two) squeezes with each hand and the score will be the highest taken with each hand.
  4. Sit and Reach:  This event uses a box to measure the flexibility of the candidate. The candidate will have 2 (two) chances with the score being the highest of the two.
  5. Broad Jump:      In this event the candidate will have 2 (two) jumps with the score being the longest of the two jumps.
  6. 1.5 Mile Run:     This run will be timed until completed.
  7. 2 ½ Hose Pull:    The candidate will pull a fully charged 2 ½ hose line as far as they can with the maximum distance of 100’ in 1 (one) minute. You must be standing to pull the hose. You cannot at anytime pull the hose while sitting or lying on the ground.
