Styrofoam No. 6 Accepted Weekly
Team Greener Glasgow, part of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, worked with City of Glasgow officials and representatives from DART Container Corporation to add a recycling location for No. 6 foam (aka styrene, styrofoam) in Glasgow in late 2009. DART Container Corporation, a leading manufacturer of styrene products in the U.S. has a manufacturing facility in Hart County.
The No. 6 Foam drop-off site provided by DART located at South Gate Plaza in Glasgow is one of thirteen such sites in the United States and one of sixteen in the world. The DART Foam #6 drop off site is operated by Glasgow's Going Green Program and is available every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the South Gate Plaza parking lot located at 619 S. L. Rogers Wells Boulevard.
DART sells its recycled polystyrene to manufacturers who reprocess it into useful products. Recycled polystyrene is used in the making of protective foam packaging and "peanuts," egg cartons, building insulation, video cassettes, toys and office desk products.
