Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Communications Center was established in March of 1994 and is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for both Barren and Metcalfe Counties. The Communications Department dispatches for all City/County Law Enforcement, Animal Control, Fire, EMA and EMS Departments.
The Communications department is the vital link between the publics need for assistance, both emergency and non-emergency, and the agencies which provide that assistance. In 2013, the Communications Department received 50,620 total volume calls. 32,511 were 911 calls with 7,831 being 911 Landline and 24,680 being 911 Wireless calls. 18,109 were Administrative calls.
We are currently made up of 15 full-time and 3 part-time dispatchers with 4 of the full-time employed by the Barren-Metcalfe Ambulance Service.
