Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Communications Center was established in March of 1994 and is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for both Barren and Metcalfe Counties. The Communications Department dispatches for all City/County Law Enforcement, Animal Control, Fire, EMA and EMS Departments.
The Communications department is the vital link between the publics need for assistance, both emergency and non-emergency, and the agencies which provide that assistance. In 2011, the Communications Department received approximately 30,686 911 calls and approximately 38,622 administrative calls (total does not include law administrative calls). Currently, as of October 31st, 2012, the Communication Department has received over 26,600 911 calls and over 15,600 administrative calls. The Communications Department has handled 41,916 calls of service for 2011 and currently 32,458 calls of service for 2012.
We are currently made up of 15 full-time and 3 part-time dispatchers with 4 of the full-time employed by the Barren-Metcalfe Ambulance Service.
